Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai travelled from Chennai to Delhi on Monday amid increasing speculation on social media about his political plans, with reports suggesting he might be preparing to establish a new political platform.
Earlier, Annamalai arrived at Chennai airport to board his flight to the national capital. Notably, the vehicle he used to reach the airport displayed no BJP flag, drawing attention amid the ongoing rumours.
When questioned about the speculations that he intends to leave the BJP and form a new political party, Annamalai responded, “Please wait. We will sit down and talk in two days.” His statement comes amid intense discussion about his future moves.
Supporters have put up posters featuring slogans such as “Our Leader, Come and Lead Us” along major roads in Chennai ahead of Annamalai’s birthday on June 4.
This situation follows the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, which brought a historic change in the state’s political landscape. The TNVK party won 108 seats in its first election, ending the long-standing dominance of the DMK and AIADMK alliances.
After the election, Vijay took charge at the Tamil Nadu Secretariat in Chennai after taking oath as the state’s 13th Chief Minister. Vijay secured support from 120 MLAs in the 234-member assembly.
Governor Arlekar also administered the oath to the new Cabinet, which includes ministers Bussy N Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, KA Sengottaiyan, KG Arunraaj, P Venkataramanan, CTR Nirmal Kumar, A Rajmohan, Keerthana and KT Prabhu.
In his inaugural speech, Chief Minister Vijay expressed gratitude to the people of Tamil Nadu for their trust and called for a “new era” of governance founded on secularism and social justice. “Come, let all of us together give Tamil Nadu a fresh new government. This is a new beginning, the start of a new era of secular, social justice,” he said amid enthusiastic cheers from supporters and party workers.
