A major development has taken place in the Surya murder case in Ghaziabad, where the prime accused, Asad, was killed in a police encounter. According to police, Asad had been absconding since the murder of 17-year-old Surya Pratap Chauhan, a Class 11 student. Acting on specific intelligence that Asad would meet friends to collect money and flee, police set up barricades and launched a checking operation in the Vasundhara area of Indirapuram. Officials stated that when police attempted to stop him, Asad allegedly opened fire. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, he was shot and later declared dead at a hospital. A head constable was reportedly injured during the encounter, while Asad’s accomplice escaped. Police recovered a pistol allegedly used in the firing and the motorcycle on which Asad was travelling. Surya’s family had been demanding strict action against the accused. Investigators say the teenager was allegedly stabbed following a dispute after being called to Asad’s house on Bakrid. Further investigation is continuing.
