For the second time this year, former Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin has had an arrest warrant issued after being found in contempt of court.
Bevin has been involved in an ongoing legal battle over child support being sought by his adopted son Jonah. He alleges years of physical and emotional abuse by Bevin and his ex-wife, Glenna.
He was found in contempt of court in March for not providing financial documents, and Judge Angela Johnson issued a warrant for his arrest.
That arrest warrant was later dismissed by Court of Appeals Judge Audra Eckerle, who said she recalled it because Bevin had filed to remove Johnson from the case before she issued the warrant.
Johnson later declined to remove herself from the case.
A hearing was held at 4 p.m. Friday, where Bevin once again appeared via Zoom. Johnson found Bevin in contempt of court again since he did not appear in person, despite the judge making the request.
Bevin told Johnson a boulder had gone through his home in Maine, so that’s why he was not there in-person.
“I told you to be here. We told you multiple times to be here and reminded you to be here on Wednesday. Now, based on what I’ve glanced at, you have the means to get a flight here. Property damage is not a sufficient excuse,” Johnson said.
He faces 14 days in jail or a $250 fine.
Johnson also told Bevin he has until June 5 to turn over more documents related to the child support case, and if he doesn’t, he could face an additional 60 days in jail and a fine.
