Jannik Sinner, the World No 1 and top seed, has been knocked out in a shock result on Day 5 at the 2026 French Open.
A clearly struggling Sinner faded in searing heat and lost against Juan Manuel Cerúndolo, 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1.
Rising star Moïse Kouame, 17, Naomi Osaka (16) and Frances Tiafoe (19) were victorious earlier today.
Women's singles top seed Aryna Sabalenka is in action against home favorite Elsa Jacquemot as she looks to make the third round.
Safe to say Frances Tiafoe enjoyed his win over Hubert Hukacz earlier today!
Is Alexander Zverev the favorite to win the French Open now?
He is the top seed remaining after Jannik Sinner's exit earlier today in Paris.
Reader Mark Simmons gives the German his vote: “My vote is four Alexander Zeverev. He was the only one to take Sinner to the max. Possibly Kouame?”

We are up and running on Court Philippe-Chatrier as world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka takes on France's Elsa Jacquemot.
Early holds for both players when on serve in the opening three games there.
FINAL: Sakkari 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 Liu
Lovely work from Greece’s Maria Sakkari!
She smashes an ace to book her place in the third round and lifts her arms wide in celebration.
Madison Keys is up now on Court 14 against Antonia Ružić.
Meanwhile, Coco Gauff leads by 3-1 in the first set against Mayar Sherif over on Suzanne-Lenglen.
We are all square on Court Simonne-Mathieu as Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime has take the second set against Roman Andres Burruchaga.
He managed that with a 6-0 win after losing the first 4-6.
He is moving well and breezed through that set.
Some results from the women's singles to bring you…
France's Diane Parry is through to the third round after a straight sets win against USA's Ann Li — 6-3, 6-4.
Meanwhile, Daria Kasatkina is though after a 7-5, 7-6 victory against Susan Bandecchi.
So, the big question now is who you see winning the men’s singles title here at Roland Garros?
My vote goes for Ben Shelton, just to shake up the order of things a bit.
Max’s vote is for Jakub Mensik.

Just as Tiafoe finishes up in his game, more American interest in Coco Gauff gets going over on Lenglen.
The No. 4 seed and holder of the French Open is up against Mayar Sherif of Egypt.
FINAL: Hurkacz 7-6, 6-7, 4-6, 7-6, 4-6 Tiafoe
What a result for Frances Tiafoe!
Four hours and 40 minutes of battling hard against Hubert Hurkacz ends with a stunning cross-court forehand.
He hugs fans in the front row of the crowd, rips his shirt off and flexes his muscles. A huge win and he likely doesn't even know Sinner is out yet!
So, with that shock exit for Jannik Sinner, here's a reminder of the top seeds still in the men’s singles draw:
American Amanda Anisimova (6) has beaten Julia Grabher via walkover, 6-0, 0-0 when Grabher withdrew.
Anna Kalinskaya (22) beat Alina Korneeva in straights as well, 7-6(2), 6-4.
And some live scores in the men's singles…
American Frances Tiafoe (19) is into a deciding set against Hubert Hurkacz, 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 6-4, 6-7(1), 3-3 on serve in the decider.
Vít Kopřiva leads Martin Landaluce 6-1, 6-2, 4-6, 5-5 in the fourth.
And Roman Andres Burruchaga has just taken the first set against fourth seed Félix Auger-Aliassime, 6-4, on Court Simonne-Mathieu.
It was double delight for the Cerúndolo family as Francisco, elder brother of Jannik Sinner's conqueror Juan Manuel and the 25th seed, came from behind to beat home favorite Hugo Gaston of France, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, 6-1.
Two Americans progressed as Learner Tien (18) beat Facundo Díaz 7-5, 4-6, 3-6, while Zachary Svajda beat Adam Walton 6-3, 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-2.
Australian Walton had beaten Daniil Medvedev (6) in the first round.
Some other results from the men's singles:
Glad you asked.
Let's take a look…
When it was announced Jannik Sinner was coming into the media room, there was a media scrum.
‘S***’ said a French journalist. ‘I haven't seen this since Nadal.’
Sinner said he felt flat and devoid of energy.
He described the conditions as ‘OK’ and said it wasn't specifically the heat that was the biggest contributing factor.
Well…
McCartney Kessler of the United States is out, beaten 7-6(3), 6-1 by Diana Shnaider (25), while Maja Chwalińska stunned Elise Mertens (23) in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0.
And some live scores:
A Grand Slam typically plays to a familiar and linear rhythm.
They start slowly, interest builds around the middle, and then they reach a crescendo at the end.
In the men’s draw at this year’s French Open, different dynamics are at play.
Here is why.

The beautifully inconsequential French Open early rounds are a chaotic balm to the men’s draw
Fans have been joining the conversation in The Athletic's discussion tab at the top of the page and available here.
A V's thoughts are below, while Trevor S adds: “I think Roland Garros did Sinner a favor by scheduling him at night the first couple of rounds. He doesn't do well in heat as we have seen in the past.”
Elena posts: “It is unfair to the audience, there were swathes of empty sectors in the sun as people suffered the searing heat. Something needs to change in terms of scheduling or cover rules. No one wants to see this.”
