Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton won the Republican Senate runoff election Tuesday in Texas, marking another success for President Donald Trump’s purge of his party. Paxton ended the day with 63.8% of the votes, with an estimated 98% of the votes counted, according to the Associated Press and CNN.
Trump’s endorsement pit Cornyn’s perceived electability against Paxton’s unflinching loyalty to Trump.
Paxton now moves forward to the fall campaign against state Rep. James Talarico.
